Hello the Internet! Welcome to the official show page for 80-Bit Podsmash. We are a weekly podcast smashing conversations about video games with topics that you care about. Please take time to like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter with the links below. We are also on reddit at /r/80bitpodsmash; and Instagram, @80bitpodsmash.

We generally have a weekly streaming schedule.

Our schedule consisted of two weekly streams - a half hour video game news show, and a video game live stream of a game we're digging.

However, due to life circumstances for both Penguin and Termite, we are putting that on hiatus until Dec 2021. Be sure to subscribe and follow along, so when we come back, you'll be ready

A Message from Penguin & Termite

Jun 3, 2020

Daniel Grathwol and Daniel Bowen, also known as Penguin and Termite, would like to take a moment to address the current situation facing our country, our community, our home:

George Floyd, a Black American, was murdered in cold blood by an officer of the Minneapolis Police Department on May 25, 2020.

This is yet another action against Black Americans. A result of a deeply flawed system that needs to change. This system, that consists of pervasive injustice, rooted in racism, isn’t going to just go away: it’s a problem that must be solved together. Penguin and Termite stand with those calling for justice, in protest, for victims like George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor and their families, and we stand with those making it undeniably clear that things need to change.

80-Bit Podsmash is usually “Where Gaming Goes to Grab a Beer.” There's a time and place for distractions and jovial discussions about the things that entertain us. This calls for a time to not be distracted. This calls for all of us to look at the problem straight on. Calls for us all to ponder, to have hard conversations, and think about ways we can help make change that will last forever.

We acknowledge that as an organization that is currently run by two white men, we have to own up to a certain amount of privilege and complicity in the systemic issues facing our country. We want our show to be a place where justice is celebrated and injustice is mourned. We commit to bettering ourselves and facing our own prejudices while speaking up for the marginalized when it is right.

Beyond that, how can Podsmashers help?

You can start by listening to black people; incorporate black authors, podcasters, ministers, actors, etc into whatever media you regularly consume. Educate yourself about institutionalized racism and the history of mass incarceration. Read, watch, and listen to accounts of police brutality and discrimination from people who have lived through it; there are plenty of books, documentaries and discussions out there that take minutes to search out.

Have a zero-tolerance policy for racist talk or behavior. Call it out whenever you see it, no matter who the person is, even if you think they’re just joking, even if only white people are present when it happens.

You can donate, march, and VOTE. The system cannot reform itself, so we need to make the world inhospitable to racism.

Regarding our upcoming content, since we record our content 2 weeks in advance of our air date, the next couple of episodes do not directly address the current state of affairs. However, we will be addressing this situation in an episode that will air in a few weeks. We are posting this blog as a more urgent means by which to communicate our support and assert that we are not staying silent or ignoring this event.

We are angry alongside our black friends, neighbors, and colleagues. We mourn with our nation as hurt begets more hurt. Please let's stand together with one voice as we cry for justice for all and meaningful change.

Penguin & Termite,
